Mark Zaid (Owner of Esquire Comics) gives expert video advice on: How do you become a comic book collector?
How do you become a comic book collector?
Comic book speculators, comic book investors. Obviously there are individuals who come into the hobby who don't have a necessarily interest in the books. They're not reading the books. They're looking at it from an investment standpoint, “If I buy this Superman 1 in this grade for this amount of money am I going to be able to turn a profit?” There's nothing wrong with that. There's not a lot of people who do it, who could make a great deal of money on in. But I would think, at least for me, the reason why I'm in this is because it is a hobby. You can make money off of a hobby. You can be both investor and a collector. Sometimes they bang against one another because you have to sell the comic you love so much. But if you understand that you're doing it not only for the enjoyment of the item, the book, the baseball card, the stamp, the coin. But also for the investment quality, I think it's a combination of the best of both worlds.
