If you want to become a genealogist, you can obviously enrol to study genealogy. There are various courses that are setup by the Society of Genealogists, Transom, Federation of Family History Societies and a number of other accredited bodies. You can actually train to become a genealogist. I also think this is a very technical point. Many people undertaking genealogy aren't doing family history, but they are looking into their background. To actually train to be a genealogist, you do need to get certificates.
