How To Begin The Estate Planning Process

How should I begin the estate planning process?

You should begin the estate planning processing by collecting information that would be useful to your counselor in preparing your estate plan. In our office, if I get a call from someone who wants to retain us for estate planning, and I know nothing about that person, I will send to the person or to the couple what I call an estate planning database or questionnaire. In the absence of that questionnaire, the person has to sit down and say, “What do I have? What is it worth? What do I want to do with it?” And if that person is a married person, “What do we want to do with it?”
