How do I choose a cancer treatment facility?

Choosing a treatment facility always provides a great tension because unless you happen to live in a large city the most renowned cancer centers in the world tend to focus in those places. Well the majority of people don't live in New York City or Houston Texas where Memorial Slim Ketering or MD Anderson is so there's a tension between seeking expertise and receiving therapy close to home. And I think it's important to recognize the strengths of both. There are some things that large cancer centers can do exclusively there are some things that can be done reliably in the community. So delivering chemotherapy or delivering radiotherapy can be often be done close to home. However when you're seeking the world expert in your particular disease you may need to be willing to travel. One of the concerns that people have is that insurance is not yet completely portable so your insurance may not approve for you to see who ever you wish. In that instance, it's often wise to ask your local physician for recommendations within your area. Oncologists are like most physicians and they tend to have areas of interest and it is unlikely that one person is going to be equally comfortable in every type of cancer even though they are a cancer specialist.
