What is a "password" and how do I choose one?

Password is that secret code word that you whisper to the guy at the door to say "Psst! Hey Charlie, can you let me into the Speakeasy, I want to read my mail." Password is that secret code word that you've set up, it's an agreement between you and your host, or email provider, service provider, that this is the word that's going to be the magic key that's going to let you into the servicer information. I like to use a combination of letters and numbers, because that's generally more secure, but it's good to do something that you can easily remember that won't be totally obvious to somebody else. So, the name of your pet dog, or your first born, would be easy for you to remember, but might be a little bit obvious if somebody were to try and guess, you might want to try for something else.
