How do I create an organizational system that works for me?

Ask yourself questions about your abilities. I always ask clients certain questions because I want to learn about how committed they are to the organizational process. I ask, "What does being organized feel like to you?" You know, how do you envision this room being? How do you see it functioning? If you want to, if you want this desk space to actually be a work space, what would you want to have at it? You have to ask yourself these questions so that you can really understand what you're going to put where and how the environment is going to work. So if you're organizing a home office, what's going to go on there? What, you know, what needs to be at your fingertips and what can be somewhere else? All these answers will help you define how you're going to set up that space. So really I think customizing a system is about really understanding the environment and knowing the habits and abilities of the person that it's being customized for. And if you can do those things, then I think the system will work because that's ultimately what you want. You want a system that works for the person it's designed for.
