How To Deal With The Changes After Gastric Bypass
Peter LePort (Gastric Bypass Surgeon) gives expert video advice on: How can I deal with the changes after gastric bypass?
How can I deal with the changes after gastric bypass?
The best way of dealing with the changes you're having after gastric bypass is to go to the support groups that we have set up and that almost every bariatric program around the country I know of has set up. Our support group is run by a psychologist. Some groups are run by other therapists who can deal with the problems that invariably come up, in a group setting. I think also the patients realize they're not alone in this. They're not the only ones who had to have surgery in order to lose weight. They realize there are lots of people around and they're not unique in their problem, and I think that's something typical of psychological problems in general -- people think that they've got this problem and they're probably the only one with it. Going to the support group gives them that ability to see, oh there are other people, they've succeeded, this is how they succeed. I can learn from them and then develop my own methods of dealing with heavy eating and what needs to be done.
