How To Determine What Clothing Is Appropriate For Your Workplace Or Business
Phyllis Davis (Business Etiquette Consultant) gives expert video advice on: How can I determine what attire is appropriate for my workplace or business?
How can I determine what attire is appropriate for my workplace or business?
As an etiquette expert I wear black and pearls a lot because that's what people expect to see me in, it's sort of like my logo. Pearls and a black suit is appropriate attire for my workplace, and I've worn that a long time and it's comfortable for me. But every industry is different, and appropriate attire usually has to come from the top down. Ask your Human Resource Manager, find out what they consider to be a dress code in your company. You'd be surprised how many companies do have dress codes. It would be embarrassing to show up with too much cleavage and be sent home, or a skirt that when you sat down, came up too high on your thigh, or shoes that were considered inappropriate for the workplace. So you need to ask what the corporate culture is and every company has a corporate culture. An ad agency in Boston is going to be very different than an ad agency in Venice, California and it's just very conservative in different parts of the country, or in Atlanta, so find out what they expect and then build a wardrobe. The biggest investment you'll have in your career is your wardrobe.
