How To Find A Good Financial Advisor

Paul Lewis (Journalist) gives expert video advice on: How do I find a good financial advisor?

How do I find a good financial advisor?

This is the most difficult question of all to answer. There are tens of thousands of financial advisors and some are good and some are not. Two words to remember: independent--they must be independent. In other words they must look across the whole market to find the very best product for you. So don't go to a bank for financial advice because they only sell their own products. Always go to someone who's independent. And the second word to remember is fees. If you can, pay them a fee. Don't let them live off the commission on the products they sell you. That creates a conflict of interest. So find an advisor who charges fees and who is independent. To find such a person, there are a number of websites you can go to. There's one called unbiased.co.uk, where you can put in your details, where you live, the specialism you want--whether its pensions or investments or annuities, whatever it is--and they will find an advisor in your area who specializes in what you want. Go see two or three and the one like--the one you feel most comfortable with--use that.
