How do I find out if my property is within a conservation area?

When an authority designates conservation areas, it often produces guidance for people who have properties in conservation areas to make them aware that they're living there and also what controls might exist. If you just bought a property in a conservation area, your solicitor may have discovered by making searches from the local authority, and you could go to the authority and say all the guidance notes which are relevant for my property. You could also look in the local planning policy documents because, more often than not, they will list all of their conservation areas, and there will be two or three general policies that they will have in their local plan, or what is now going to become the local development framework, that they will use for conservation areas. The criteria against which planning proposals will be judged.
