All planning authorities keep records going right the way back to when planning permissions were first needed. They may also have records that show what the original development, if you're living in a relatively new property, what was there when it was first built. That's the starting point for deciding whether you have any permitted development rights. Is it a single family, or are you part of a building that holds more than one family? If it's a multiple development, no permitted development rights. Only where it's a single dwelling do you have permitted development rights, and you would need to check whether any of those rights have been used before.
