How do I find out which agency organised my adoption?
If an adopted person can speak to their adoptive family about their desire to search, then this can often provide a lot of shortcuts because the adoptive person can say to the parents "Can you tell me which agency was involved with my adoption?" So then they will be able to contact the agency. Sometimes, the adoptive person might be quite adult when they start their search and their adoptive parents may not be around. Maybe they are dead and all they have access to is just the original birth certificate. But by looking at that birth certificate, there might be an address on there that might give them some hint about where the records may be held. There are resources around today, for example, and there is also the adoption search reunion website. On that website there are a lot of databases of all the mother and baby homes that existed. Now an adoptive person could simply go on to that database and put in that address to find out if it was a mother and baby home, and by going through the various avenues they will probably locate which agencies used that mother and baby home.
