How To Floss Your Teeth

Ronald Rosenblatt, DDS (General and Cosmetic Dentistry) gives expert video advice on: How do I floss my teeth?

How do I floss my teeth?

When you floss your teeth, you want to make sure that you don't damage your gums, so you need to slide between the teeth carefully. As you slide below where the teeth contact each other, you want to stay in contact with one of the teeth and then slide down below the gum when you floss your teeth. Then you should come up over the triangle of the gum, and then down the other side on the other tooth. Then you can pop the floss out through the top. You need to floss between each of your teeth and this should be done at least once a day, preferably twice a day. There are many types of floss to use. There's tape, there's regular floss, there's waxed and there's unwaxed. Personal preference will let you decide whether you like to use tape, or whether you use regular floss. Ideally you should use unwaxed floss because it tends to take out more plaque than the waxed floss. However, it's much easier to use the waxed floss and I would prefer to have you using something you're going to use, than not using something that may be better for you. So if using waxed floss will make you floss, use the waxed floss. But floss!
