How do I get a job if I have a criminal record?
If you have a criminal record, that does not need to be a death sentence to your career. Keep that in mind. There are many employers out there who are sensitive to that particular issue. The most important thing, if you are an ex-offender, is that you are honest about your criminal background and that you're very up front in terms of your rehabilitation and your parole status and that sort of thing. So there are certainly ways that you can go about approaching employers. Be up front on your resume. Be up front in the interview process. Certainly through your networking you can find employers, find out about employers, who are open to the idea of hiring ex-offenders. In my personal opinion, we should all be very open to that idea and we should support people who are getting out of the prison system who want to get out there and really make a career for themselves. So be up front, be candid, be proactive, and certainly don't be ashamed of your criminal background. That would probably be the worst thing that you can do, but rather demonstrate to any prospective employer how much you've changed and how much you want to make a positive contribution to your community and to their company.
