How To Get A Pitch Meeting For A Reality Show With A Network
Mark Cronin (Founder & Producer) gives expert video advice on: How can I get a pitch meeting with a network?
How can I get a pitch meeting with a network?
One way to get in front of the network is to have an agent who represents you and promises the network that they are not waisting their time meeting with you. Another way to get in front of a network is to have such an enormous reputation that you don't need an agent - they know who you are or the like a show you've produced somewhere. Some will experiment and poke around on the Internet. Some network executives will see something they like on YouTube and say, "I have to meet that guy," and they will call somebody in for a meeting that way. It is unlikely that you'll get a meeting with a network by sending them something. Usually they either have to find you, because if you have talent, they will find you. If you're putting yourself out there in general and you have talent and popularity, and some already rising popularity either on YouTube or MySpace, or if you have some way of showing America your talent, they will find you. The people who can make money on you will find you.
Tips & Comments
What type of agent would you need? I am in LA and need to find an Agent ASAP. I have this pilot and ready to pitch. It already has over 110,000 views on youtube in less than 2 months. I am not even an established Youtuber.
I mistyped. I meant to say wrong conclusions, not wrong assumptions. :-P
What I said previously here in a comment is what you say in another video blog "Reality Show Pitching". That you can and should team up with an established production company. I would strong recommend you redo this video blog so people like myself and Blender_Ace don't make the wrong assumptions. :-)
I have to agree with Blender_Ace. This whole blog seems almost meaningless if you're saying you have to already be a successful producer to be able to pitch networks. And, no, your second way (being an internet sensation) is just as unrealistic. If you cannot tell us how we can get into make a pitch, what's the point of all your posts? Even if we succeed as an internet sensation, you're saying they'll come and find us so we don't have to pitch them since they'll be pitching us. Do you see the problem here? You need to address this problem and put it at the top of your post pile. I was really enjoying your other posts until I watched this one. Possibly there isn't a solution. But if that's the case, why did you do this video posts? You keep using the word "you" in all of them. That gives us viewers the idea that you think we can do what you're saying. This post nixes all of that. Now if you are truly one of those well-connected successful producers, what about allowing us to come and pitch you? If you like it, you helping us polish the pitch and then going in with us to do the pitch to the networks. Or if not you, is pitching another production company to do the same thing the way to go? By the way, the Discovery company (Discovery Channel, TLC, etc.) say for people to do exactly that. They say so right on their website. If you got a show idea but are not a production company, go and pitch one that is and join forces with them (the production company) to pitch them (Discovery).
The answer here is be an internet sensation already and/or be famous for producing tv shows?! That's like asking "how can I be wealthy" and answering "win the lottery and/or already be filthy rich". I understand the TV production process is difficult, but there's nothing to be learned from these video segments. Show us an example of a successful TV pitch. Or how about interviewing the very TV executives who hear these pitches and have them say what they like to hear? Or anything that offers more than anecdotal information.
