How To Get Health Insurance
Elliot Matloff (President and Broker, The Matloff Company) gives expert video advice on: How do I get health insurance?
How do I get health insurance?
There are two ways to get health insurance. You can either call an agent on the telephone, or call the company directly and try to do it on your own. When you do it on your own the company sends you the forms, or sometimes you can do it on the Internet. You complete it, and a couple weeks later you find out if you are approved or not. You sometimes think that's the best way, but really it's still better to do it through an agent because sometimes the agent will give you ideas about certain programs being better and less expensive. Maybe the agent will tell you that you're not answering the application properly and it's going to cause you to get declined. Maybe the agent tells you we don't even want to apply for this particular company because they have a prejudice against this type of condition. So as an example, if I have a client that is five foot four and weighs two-hundred pounds, I might say that one company probably will decline you but another company happens to be much more liberal in their underwriting. You wouldn't know this until you've submitted your application if you did it only by yourself through the Internet or directly on the telephone. Once you're declined, unfortunately, you have to tell the next insurance company that you've been declined and that gives them a red flag to make sure that they really scrutinize your application. So you're really want to make sure that if you can try to use an insurance agent or broker before you use your own self on the telephone on the Internet.
