Credit reference files have been available for many years, even before the Data Protection Act, under the old Consumer Credit Act. Credit reference files are held by the two major credit reference bureaus. They have a statutory obligation to provide you with a copy of those records, on payment of a fee. You have a right to have irrelevant information deleted and to have incorrect information corrected. Also, if it is information that is relevant and correct but you still disagree with it, you have a right to make a statement to be kept on the file.
