How do you get signed up for shows?

You have to have an agent. Generally, that's the way you start. There's a lot of circus agencies out there, and they don't work on a sole basis like acting, so there's loads. And you just basically send your portfolio, same deal as if you were an actor or musician or whatever. That's how it starts, but once you get gigs, then it becomes word of mouth. And just being in the circus base, through the people you know - a lot of the work comes from there. I might know a juggler and say there's someone looking for a juggler, so I pass on that contact.
