How To Greet The Client When Selling To Them

Vera Hughes (Co-author Teach Yourself: Setting Up A Small Business) gives expert video advice on: How should I greet the client?

How should I greet the client?

You smile. You shake hands. Shake hands with everybody who is there. And don't forget to acknowledge other people - other people perhaps you've met in the house or certainly that you've met in the office. If you're in the house, don't forget the children and the pets. But anyway, you smile, you shake hands. You give them your card if that's appropriate. You take their cards. If it's a business meeting you try to ‘suss-out' who is who and where they fit in to the company. And of course you don't sit down until you are invited to do so and then you sit in the seat indicated. Now, to get the meeting off the ground you'll probably be expected just to make the opening remarks. And if you can when you are doing this, relate to something that you've already passed between you. Might have been an email or might have been a telephone call or perhaps you sent some leaflets or some fliers. Just refer to those. And then you can start the next stage of the selling process.
