How To Handle Conflict With Directors

William Shatner (Author) gives expert video advice on: How do you handle conflicts with directors?

How do you handle conflicts with directors?

If the director thinks, "I think it should be loud." I say, "I think it should be soft." Well, you try it loud, he's the boss, it's his film, you want to do it his way. Which sounds right, but sometimes directors don't know. They have an idea, but it may be wrong. They're not God. Many directors are willing to be shown that they're wrong. On the other hand, you may be wrong. You just don't know. You try it their way, to the best of your abilities, to see if it works, if it's in conflict with what you think. You try it loud and try to invest in it and try and to put emotion in it. You're thinking, "Well maybe..." and now you're solving something and it may bring something to the moment that was never thought of before by trying to solve the problem.
