If you want to be really cheap when you heat your home, you can use a supply of timber that's seasoned (kept for a year) and burn that in a cast iron stove. When I used to live on a house-boat, we would collect timber from skips and keep it to save on heating bills. You can also heat your home cheaply by buying a new energy efficient cast iron stove, or finding one in a reclamation yard. You can also use these for cooking and kettles because the old ones have special little add-on shelves and they stay warm all night long.
