How To Involve Your Community In Helping The Search For Your Missing Child

Marc Klaas (President & Founder, KlaasKids Foundation) gives expert video advice on: How can my community help the search for my missing child?

How can my community help the search for my missing child?

If a child has been kidnapped and is missing and the word has got out adequately in your community, then your community is going to respond, and they are going to want to get involved because people do want to get involved in recovering missing children. It's something that nobody wants to tolerate in their community and everybody wants to help affect. So you don't really have to convince the community to get involved in the search for a missing child. What you have to do is help to organize them so that the involvement can be, hopefully, profound and meaningful in the recovery of the child. And through my experience, the best way to do that is to run search parties because much of the other work is being done by law enforcement. Certainly you can do things like flyer distributions and talking to the media. But generally it's through physical searches for the child that success occurs. That's where you're going to be able to harness the greatest volunteer resource.
