One of the things you can do is keep their skin well lubricated with moisturizers and there are a lot of moisturizers out there. Secondly, antihistamines can prevent itching in many of the children and there are some specific ones that are better for itching than others. Then one avoid wool if possible use cotton clothing. One is careful on the sheets and pillow cases make sure that they're not douche with fabric softener or perfumes or the other things that you like to put in a nursery because kids don't always smell so wonderful. There are medications to apply on the skin directly which are also good for scratching or itching. Topical steroids of small dosage or lower concentration as mention before. New medications called Protopic or Elidel which are non steroids and also helpful in the itching and scratching on the skin.
