New-borns have very small stomaches so they will bottle feed at a pace that is appropriate for them. You should watch them the same way you would watch a breast feeding baby. Watch them for signs of hunger - do their fists come to their mouths? Are they licking and sniffing and looking around for mother? Take your new-born, hold it very close to you like your going to breast feed but then instead, hold the bottle in the direction that the breast would be so that the baby will latch on to the bottle very naturally as though it were breast feeding. Instead, it is bottle feeding.
