How do I know if I am at risk for a premature birth?

You would be considered at risk for a preterm birth if you have a number of risk factors, the most common of which being a history of preterm birth. If a woman has delivered a previous baby prior to 37 weeks, she is probably twice as likely to deliver preterm again and so requires closer monitoring. Other risk factors for premature birth would be include teen pregnancy or someone at the opposite age spectrum. If the patient is an older mother she's at risk for premature birth. Women who are underweight prior to pregnancy are also noticed to be at risk for preterm birth. Another major risk factor for premature birth is experiencing any bleeding at any point in the pregnancy.
