Ask, ask, you must have to ask. "Hey, can I do this? "Hey, can I work on that?" There's a difference between saying, "I'm bored, what do you want me to do", or being aggressive and saying, "Hey, you know I'd love to work on this product, do you think there's room for me to help?" Or just say, "Hey, I'm really interested in helping if anybody needs anything." Then they'll know that you're available.
