How do I know if I can manage my HIV medication regimen?
It's important to know about HIV medication that you need to be better than 95% adherent. That means, if you're on a one pill once a day regiment, you need to be able to take your pills everyday for 30 days straight. You may be able to miss one dose perhaps once a month but you always need to be better than 95% adherent. If you're taking HIV medication twice a day, you may be able to one or two doses per month and still hit that 95% mark. A good test to see if you can actually take a pill once a day for 30 days is to go out and buy yourself some vitamins. Exactly 30 pills. Tell yourself your goal is to take one pill once a day for 30 days. Try that for a month. And at the end of that 30 days, see if you have any that are left. Figure out why you missed those doses. If you've been able to take 30 vitamins in 30 days, you're on a good track to being adherent to HIV medication.
