How do I know if I have a voice problem?
You should be suspicious that you have a voice problem if any changes in pitch, hoarseness, throat pain, inflection in the voice last for more than a 2-week period. If they are prolonged and you feel that “My voice has changed and it's not going back to its normal state,” you should probably be evaluated for a possible voice disorder. Typically, an easy examination can let the otolaryngologist know whether there's something physically wrong with the vocal cords themselves, or they can examine you with a video stroboscopy which actually looks at the waveform of the vocal cords to find out if there's something more functional, like a nerve problem, or just simple overuse or straining of your voice.
