How can I know if my child is doing enough revision?
You probably don't. You've got to trust them to a degree. You can try and open up a dialogue with them, but if you start prying too much you could be seen to be interfering, and there's a balance depending on the relationship between the parents and the child as to what you can do and how to do it. Some parents attempt to bribe their children by offering them exotic holidays, or, I dare say even now in some circumstances, flashy cars. Generally speaking that's not something to be recommended because it then puts extra pressure on the youngster. Not only have they got to pass the examinations, but if they don't pass, they fail the exam and they fail to get the car. Generally speaking, they should have the incentive within themselves, and if they don't have that incentive then there is always a difficulty. I mean, if you get them through the GCSE by buying them an expensive bicycle, what are you going to do for A-Levels and then when it gets to degree level, what are you going to do? It really is within the child to take on that responsibility and if they haven't taken that on then there is always a difficulty. They have got to realize they need to do well on the examination.
