How do I know if my child's suicidal threats are serious?

Children as young as three to five years of age that have significant mental health issues will verbalize suicidal ideation. Whether they complete their suicide is very low, but they will often times verbalize suicidal ideation and often times gesture, but will not complete that gesture because of the severity of the issues they're dealing with or the internal conflict that they're feeling.
