In your dreams 784, I totally agree with you. Having suffered with herpes for over 20 years, which took ages to diagnose, a doctor told me I just had an infected hair follicle!!! My son almost died from encephalitis, which was caused by viral herpes!!! He has an aquired brain condition and still the link has not been made that I had herpes before I was pregnant went to the doctor and was fobbed off!! Now as I am getting older 45 to be precise my outbreaks are frequent, in the past 6 weeks I have had severe outbreaks and feel so very ill that even walking is a real pain. I have the most intense aching muscles, flu like symptoms and generally feel unwell and almost like I have been kicked in the genital area. I know what I have been doing wrong and that is a lot of stress, too much alcohol, too many cigarettes so drastic lifechanges will have to be made. I have gotten my vitamin C and zinc and will be cutting out all the bad things. This is the worst episode and I collapsed with the pain. I know that when I was younger I rarely had an outbreak but now it is getting worse. Aciclovor has not eased or helped me. Herpes is probably a very underestimated condition. Perhaps this doctor should have seen my seven year old son when he was dying and then he could state 'there are no long term affects'. I was a nurse!!!!

This is completely false!!! There ARE long term effects of herpes, how can you say there isn't? I suffer from them. I have recurrent HSV-2 meningitis. How is that not long term? the virus has taken up home during latency and when it's active in my CSF. It has in turn not only put me through 4 episodes of meningitis (confirmed cases) but I now suffer from Chronic migraines secondary to the herpes infection. And what about Herpes encephalitis? Or the connection of Herpes to keratitis? causing blindness? or the herpes zoster virus causing vasculopathy in the brain later in life? or the Human Herpes virus number 6 that can integrate into the human chromosomes and be passed on to a child? You are a doctor? Really? pathetic.
