How do I know when it's appropriate to express anger?
I think it's very important to recognize that when you are feeling angry that you do consider whether it's appropriate or inappropriate. I would always suggest that it's appropriate to express your feelings of anger, once you've given it about five minutes of reflecting. We use this rule of thumb, which is: if it's going to affect you after five minutes, then communicate it. If it's not going to affect you after five minutes, there are different ways of dealing with it. So you can use your anger journal. You can use a support network. You can reflect on what the person has said, and you can also reflect on how you feel and why you feel upset in the way that you might feel.
