How To Lay The Groundwork For Your Child To Be Interested In The Arts
Kimberly Oliver (National Teacher of the Year, Broad Acres Elementary School, Maryland) gives expert video advice on: How can I lay the groundwork for my child to be interested in the arts?
How can I lay the groundwork for my child to be interested in the arts?
There are many ways for a parent to help a child become engaged and interested in the arts. Finding out the student's strengths and interests is the first place to start. If a child likes to sing, maybe enroll them in a different music class at the local library or the local community center. If they're interested in music, buying them small musical instruments in the home or having an opportunity to work on those in music class in school is an excellent opportunity to tap into those interests and those strengths. Children have a natural inclination towards the visual arts; they love things that are aesthetically pleasing, and of course taking out the markers, the finger paint, the paintbrushes and easel are excellent ways to get them interested, engaged, and motivated in the visual arts as well.
