How can I make smart food choices in the dining hall?

Someone can make very healthful choices by eating in the dining hall focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables and foods that are less processed. So if we can make food choices that are less packaged, less processed, that's always going to be a good idea. Avoiding foods or moderating foods that are high in fat and deep fried like french fries and chicken tenders, maybe those are once a week or less items. But focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables, grilled meat choices, we can avoid the Freshman 15 by choosing healthful foods that are not creamed based or cheese based like ogra or alfredo sauce, but instead choosing soups that are broth based. Instead of Cream of Broccoli, someone could choose Chicken Noodle soup. Instead of choosing Ranch dressing, someone could choose Italian dressing.
