How can I monitor my child's school performance?

A parent can monitor their child's school performance in a number of ways. One would be to engage in a simple dialogue. As you pick up your youngster from school or during the dinner table, to ask, "Tell me about your day at school, Johnny. What did you do during history class?" Or "What did you during PE?" Be real specific about particular content areas, and a parent can change that from time to time so it doesn't get kind of boring as you have this conversation. Another way might be to say, "Little Johnny, let me see your homework. I understand you had to do page 34 in your math book. Let me take a look at page 34, if you don't mind." By looking at the homework, you can kind of gauge the type of assignments, the level that they're engaged in at the particular time. I would say that would be good for a kindergarten student as well as a high school student. That approach is totally appropriate for those parents.
