How To Motivate Your Team To Work With You For Your Boss's Goals

Stefanie Schaeffer (Winner, NBC's "The Apprentice" Season 6) gives expert video advice on: How do I motivate my team to work with me, for our boss' goals?

How do I motivate my team to work with me, for our boss' goals?

You motivate the people on your team by being the best possible example. What you expect from your team should be what you give to them. Demonstrate it. Be the leader they seek to follow. Be your best example of a leader, and strive for that every single day and expect that from your team. But be prepared to give it as well. People will rise to the occasion. Give them a chance to shine. Give them a chance to show you that they can strut their stuff, that they can be fantastic, that they can be as great as you want them to be. And then don't be afraid to offer positive feedback and encourage them and say, "Look, you're doing an amazing job." It doesn't hurt you to give compliments, but be sincere in your compliments. Don't just dole them out sort of willy nilly. Be sincere in everything that you do. And be appreciative of the efforts that people put forth, because the skill level for individuals varies drastically. If you as a leader have the ability to recognize that a particular individual on your team is giving their all, it's helpful to you and it's helpful to them to recognize it and to mention it to them. The way to people's hearts is through their stomachs. So feed them. Bring sweets. It's a peace offering of sorts, and it really does set the tone for your meeting. I'm very much a fan of bagels and coffee. That works really well for people for some reason. It gives them lots of energy for the day. You get them all pumped up on carbs. It's very good.
