How should I pick my rock climbing rope?
Your basic Rock Climbing rope is always going to be a dynamic rope, which means that it has a little bit of stretch to it. If you're using it for top-roping, or situations where durability is going to be paramount, and it probably will get a lot of falls on it, then you'll want it probably above ten millimeters in diameter. If you're climbing the mountains and you want a light-weight rope, that doesn't weigh as much, and you probably won't be falling on it as much, and you're at a more advanced level, then you could go with something as small as a nine millimeter rope. I have a beefy ten millimeter rope for places like Joshua Tree, rough rock, where it's going to get a lot of abuse. And I have a nine millimeter rope to take to the mountains.
