You can prevent hangnails by filing your nails properly. Sometimes, if you go into the corners or edges of your nails and you file inward, you can get a hangnail, because you are filing in and suffercating the nail, and it will splinter off. Make sure you are using a file just to round the edge. Don't go into the crease of the nail, and that will avoid hangnails.
