How To Protect Your Child From A Family Abduction

Marc Klaas (President & Founder, KlaasKids Foundation) gives expert video advice on: How do I protect my child from a family abduction?

How do I protect my child from a family abduction?

Well, it depends on the age of the child. If the child is older, you should have a very frank discussion with them. That if they are taken away in the middle of the night and told that Mommy doesn't love you anymore, or Daddy doesn't love you anymore. That, this is not something that they should believe. They should have your phone number, they should have an ability to contact you, and, in fact, if they are older children they should have their own cell phone, so that they can do that in an emergency. If the children are younger, you want to collect all of the information you can, on the ex-spouse you are concerned about. So that if they do take the child and run, you'll at least be able to jump start an investigation. By providing law enforcement with credit card information, with cell phone information, with family information, and with vehicle registration information. It becomes very easy in the 21st century to be able to track the movements of individuals, just by utilizing that information alone.
