How To Raise Money To Pay For Your Expedition As An Explorer

How do you raise money to pay for your expedition?

I'm unusual as an adventurer or explorer in that I've never really believed in sponsorship. I've never felt this amount of money you can get from various people to do anything other than corrupt your aim. I mean it has to be said I'm not someone who goes to the poles. It's much more expensive. I'm someone who learns from indigenous people. So for me it's about slipping into these remote places and learning from locals. So, what I originally did was work in a warehouse. And I lived with my Mum and Dad until I was 27, so you've got to be prepared to make sacrifices, and that was my sacrifices. But I suppose it was great living with my Mum and Dad but on the other hand, I had no money and the key to my operation was simply to learn from the local people who don't have money either. And I thought if I could live with them then I could learn about the place and set off on my adventure from them with some of their skills and that would give me a sort of modis operandi, a way of working. And yeah, for me it was always going to be a problem if I had, say, a camel with an advert across it, or ski boots with a brand. I don't like all that. For me, it's all about letting go of the world you come from and embracing the world you're going to. That's my sort of exploration and I do understand it's different if your walking to the north and south pole, but to me that's adventuring and not exploration.
