How To Respond To Your Baby's Crying
Scott Cohen (Pediatrician, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center) gives expert video advice on: How should I respond to my baby's crying?
How should I respond to my baby's crying?
It's helpful to understand that in the first couple months of life you can't spoil your baby, so I think you should respond to their crying immediately. If they're hungry, you feed them. If they want some comfort, you pick them up and comfort them. Around four months of age we go full-circle and say "Yep, mommy and daddy are there for you but we're going to do a little more of learning to self-soothe." The first couple months of life your child is at a stage of development where they're learning the world is safe because the world comes to them and you bring everything to them. So I think it's important to respond to your child's crying, especially so early on in their development.
