How To Search For Your Missing Child
Marc Klaas (President & Founder, KlaasKids Foundation) gives expert video advice on: What can I do to search for my missing child?
What can I do to search for my missing child?
Number one, don't be shy. I mean, that's really the beginning, middle and end of it. Cooperate with law enforcement fully. Don't put a lawyer bewteen you and the cops as so many families do and we've seen this time and again on the media because what happens then is that lawyer begins representing you and not the missing child and they then have things you should and shouldn't say, that shouldn't be part of this equation at all. Number two, fully cooperate with the media. You have to remember that ten seconds on the evening news can get more publicity for a missing child than a parent will be able to generate by nailing missing flyers on telephone poles in a hundred years. Number three, get involved yourself encourage your community to help search for the missing child. You can start organizing search parties although it's much better if they're organized professionally. You can create your own flyer and you can then do your own distribution list, you can get on the phone to friends, family and even strangers because the reality is when a child is kidnapped there are a lot of forces working against you and for you but you often times don't realize that and in hindsight as a person who was in that situation I can tell you that you then become the general in the battle to recover your own child because everything is based on hope. If you can keep hope alive and keep the media involved that keeps pressure on law enforcement to stay involved and you can all work towards a successful resolution, however you want to find a successful resolution. The worst thing you can do is do nothing.
