How To Select A Good Dog Breeder

Shelby Marlo, CPDT (Animal Behavioral Specialist, Professional Dog trainer) gives expert video advice on: How do I select a good dog breeder?

How do I select a good dog breeder?

You start looking for a good dog breeder by, of course, selecting your breed. Then, the AKC (the American Kennel Club) does have a website that will give you, at least as a beginning point, the secretary of the breed in your area. So, for example, if I was looking for a Smooth Collie, I would look on the Internet at the AKC. They would direct me to the secretary of California. Then I would hone it down closer to me, which is Los Angeles. Then, you keep honing it down. You might want to go out of your area because often you're going to get a dog that will to suit your needs further out. However, this depends upon your needs and your willingness to go afar.
