How To Take Notes In Lectures
Simon Kemp (Lecturer, Module Coordinator) gives expert video advice on: How should I take notes in lectures?
How should I take notes in lectures?
In terms of taking notes in lectures, it's very much down to your own technique. Different people have different methods of taking notes in lectures. What I would say is don't try to write absolutely everything down. If you do try to write everything down, then you might as well not actually have gone to the lecture having understood anything at all. It is best to work in accordance with the handouts that are given out at the end of the lecture. A typical handout will give key points in the lecture, and you should then add the detail to these points on your handout. It is sometimes a good idea to sketch down some diagrams, but make some bullet points. Make sure that you understand the overall theme of the lecture, and then what I tend to recommend is at the end of a lecture go away and write down the main points you learnt from that lecture, as a quick summary, as that reinforces what you have already learnt.
