How To Trace A Pension You Have Paid Into

Paul Lewis (Journalist) gives expert video advice on: How do I trace a pension I have paid into?

How do I trace a pension I have paid into?

This is a real problem because nowadays people move jobs quite frequently. They may have paid into a bit of a pension here, and a bit of a pension there. It can be very difficult to keep track of them. We don't all have a filing cabinet full of our old employment stuff for 40 years. Luckily there is an organization run by the government called the Pension Tracing Service, which you can find through the Pension Service website which will, or should be able to, reunite you with a pension that you've paid into. But just because you've paid into a pension doesn't mean that there's anything there for you, because particularly in the past when you leave jobs you often took the money out. So there may be nothing in there. The Pension Tracing Service should be able to sort all of that out. There's an awful lot of money that people have paid in that they've not been reunited with, so it's well worth investigating.
