How To Treat Hemorrhoids

Siamak Tabib (Gastroenterologist, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA) gives expert video advice on: What is the treatment for hemorrhoids?

What is the treatment for hemorrhoids?

The treatment of haemorrhoids is generally centred on medical management. We would like to improve bowel movements and have soft bowel movements so they're not hard and irritating to these haemorrhoids. In order to do that, we will typically increase the fluid intake of someone suffering from haemorrhoids. We have them increase their intake of daily fibre to have more formed and softer stools. Occasionally stool softeners are given to aid in the healing the condition of haemorrhoids. When needed, haemorrhoidal ointments, creams or suppositories can be used, which can have certain medications which will cool off or decrease the inflammation or irritation in the lining where these haemorrhoids exist.
