How do I show the best parts of my personality right off the bat?
If you try to get your boss to really take note of your positive attributes, you need to focus on those first. Put your best foot forward and if you know that you are particularly articulate or you are very outspoken or you are going for a sales job, and you just have a way of, you could sell iced tea to the eskimos. You want to emphasize that and call attention to it. You have to assume, kind of like being in court. A judge may not know or necessarily read all of your papers and your trial briefs, and some other things you submit. Just like a boss may not have time to read everything that you submit. The memo that you poured your heart and soul into could be tenth on his list of priorities. So whatever you think are your strongest focal points, you need to call attention to those. There is a book out called how to toot your own horn. How to brag and do it the right way. You have to do that in a tasteful way that really calls attention to what is great about you while underplaying the things that maybe you need to work on.
