Liposuction Recovery And Cost
What should I expect after liposuction surgery?
Depending on the area involved, you're going to feel pretty sore after liposuction. There's going to be some bruising, some swelling - a lot of black and blue. I tell patients they almost feel like they got kicked or punched, or they went to the gym and really worked out more than usual. Don't expect that you're immediately going to fit into a smaller suit or dress after liposuction. Don't immediately assume that you're going to lose weight because there is some volume and fluid that's put into patients and that takes a couple of days to resolve. Usually, you really start to see some results about a month after liposuction.
What post procedures should I follow after liposuction surgery?
When you go to see your doctor after liposuction, most likely all he'll do the first one or two office visits is to take a look at your liposuction incision sites and your dressings. He'll most likely remove them and then put you in a liposuction garment. What's going to happen is when that fat is removed during liposuction there is some fluid and some holes within the soft tissue and those areas need to be compressed. That means you're going to need to wear your garment after liposuction. That doesn't mean wear your garment for a day after liposuction, it means wear your garment all the time for about a month anywhere up to two or three months. Patients don't necessarily like that, but it's really important to wear the garment after liposuction for you to get the best result.
Will I have to take time off from work after having liposuction?
If you're going to have a liposuction in an area that isn't involved in the face, you probably only have to take a day or two off from work. The incisions, the dressings and the garments will all be hidden by your clothes. It's a bit painful for a day or two after liposuction, but if you need to get back to work you can probably be back to work in 3 to 4 days at a minimum.
What are the costs associated with liposuction?
Liposuction is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by health insurance. The costs of liposuction will usually be two or threefold. The cost of liposuction will include your doctor's fee, and then depending on where the liposuction procedure is performed, either in his office, in a surgery center, or a hospital, there'll be a facility fee involved there. And also the anesthesiologist will have a fee. The cost for liposuction depends on the areas involved. For small areas, the price can be anywhere from $400 or $500. If you're talking about significant amounts of liposuction, it can be up to $2,000, $25,000.
Can I get other plastic surgery procedures at the same time I receive liposuction?
It's very common to have liposuction done with other procedures. It's very common to have liposuction done on many different parts of your body. One of the more interesting procedures we do now is to take that fat from the liposuction and inject it into other parts of the body where patients want augmentation.
