Maintaining Hope During Cancer
How do you keep hope alive in the face of cancer?
Well for me, my faith kept my hope alive whilst fighting cancer, and I think that's strong for so many people. But if you didn't have a particular faith, I think perhaps thinking of your loved ones, what you would want for their lives, how you would want them to enjoy their life and what you would like them to do would help in your fight against cancer. Also, things that you would like to see achieved, focusing on what mark you would like to leave will also help.
Should I compare my recovery progress with others?
No you should not compare your cancer recovery progress with others. Because everyone is different, every body is different, everyone's emotions are different and everyone's circumstances are different. And you are you, and this is your experience, your fight against cancer.
What are some ways to lift my spirits during cancer treatment?
There are many ways to lift your spirits during cancer treatment. Pets are a great comfort, as is soothing music and candles - just whatever is soothing and reassuring and comforting to you, use it during cancer treatment. I used to go to bed every night with a tape on, and it was just beautiful music, but it was very soothing to me whilst I was going through cancer treatment. And I would put lavender oil on. Whatever works to help lift your spirits during your cancer treatment.
How can I overcome the 'why me syndrome'?
Why not you? The cancer could be environmental, it could be genetic, who knows, but why not you? So don't even go there. Just decide what good can come of this and focus on that. And there is good that can from it.
