Depending on how long you did the Cleanse, again you're going to be slowing down your metabolism. It's very hard on the heart, and for somebody with diabetes, again the Master Cleanse is a no-no.
Can a diabetic try the Master Cleanse?
Anyone with diabetes should not go on something like the Master Cleanse. Like everybody, we need to eat a healthy balanced diet, but for diabetics it's particularly important that they keep their blood sugar under control. On the Master Cleanse, they can cause their blood sugar to plummet, going back to eating can cause to spike again, and that can be very dangerous for a diabetic.
Who should never consider the Master Cleanse?
Those that have a weakened immune system, people who are older, or children, certainly should not be trying the Master Cleanse. Teenagers should certainly not be trying it. If you got an impaired immune system this diet can potentially be very dangerous, because you're not getting the nutrients that you need. And, if you're not as healthy as you could be, it's going to be much harder for you to combat whatever illness you may have.
Are any types of cleansing or detox diets safe to consider?
If you really want to do a cleanse, choose a high fibre diet. Fibre is the gastrointestinal tract's exercise, and fibre helps us get out what we don't need. So if you want to do a cleansing diet, you need a diet that's high in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and the like.
Is it safe to fast for any amount of time?
Fasting for a day or two, for healthy people, isn't necessarily unhealthy. Most people can bounce back from that. It's the long term fasting where we start to see detrimental effects to our body.
